W.W.K.I.P. Day

Today was World Wide Knit in Public Day. The Charlotte Knitting Guild and the Charlotte Purls held an event in Charlotte at Freedom Park. This year was the first time such an event was held here in the Queen City, but there were still plenty of knitters who braved the heat to knit in public...and I was one of them. Hubby thought the idea of spending time at the park sounded nice so he actually wanted to go. First we went by the library to sign Little Man up for the summer reading program, and then we headed to the park. I hadn't been to the park before, it's a ways away from us, and I was really impressed by it. There is a lake, a very large playground, and an old locomotive car that has been turned into an open place for children to walk around. As we were arriving the weekly yoga class held by the lake was finishing up.

Anyway, we set up camp, and Little Man played with other kids, and Hubby and Michelle's husband played ball with the kids. I worked on my Turtle Washcloth for the Charlotte Purls' KAL (finishing the last few rows before we left). We were fortunate enough to get free pizza from a new pizza place that had just opened and was giving free slices to people in the park (yeah for a free lunch). And Remi from Charlotte Yarn brought a snow cone machine that drove the kids wild. There were raffles and games, and a yarn swap, a one kind woman brought along a bunch of cotton yarn that she gave away with the only stipulation being that we had to knit a washcloth from charity with it. Well I scored two very large cones which will come in very handy. We were there for hours, sweat a bit, and just had a really good time.
