Kayaking Around Long Island

Make that Long Island in North Carolina! We had an amazing time kayaking! We grabbed Subway on the way, and headed out to an uninhabited island where we pulled up onto a tiny beach area and found a spot where we could eat and enjoy the view.

After we ate we got back into the kayaks and paddles around the river trying to find the waterfall we had heard about. On the way we were just speechless at the peace and quiet. We saw herons, and smelled wild roses...and saw no one else around. The water where we kayaked was REALLY shallow. And there were trees that had fallen over that had JUST enough space for us to squeeze through. SO...no boats! And you can't walk there...obviously there aren't any roads...so it was just us out there.

It felt like we'd never find it, but we were so rewarded with the cool water when we did!  We had some drama when Little Man slipped and cut his foot on a rock...but we rallied and got back to the kayaks to head back.

Little Man stopped along the way to fish, and we enjoyed a leisurely pace. It was a beautiful day and we were so glad we were able to really get out there and enjoy it!
