Where is Craft Chick?

I'm here! I know it's been a while, but like I've said before, if I can't write something nice, I feel it's often better to not write at all. No need being a Debbie Downer for all of you who read this blog. (Although I have to say some of you who I've seen in the last week and a half were unfortunate enough to be around me in my doom and gloom, and for that I am really sorry). For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I joined the hundreds of thousands to be laid off from my job. So, while I've been wrapping my mind around that, figuring out what to do, and dealing with holiday chores, I haven't posted. I have worked on some projects though. Two of them went so fast they never had the chance to make it on my progress sidebar!

My Mom's good friend's daughter is having twins, and I'm making sweaters for them (one blue, one pink). I turned to the 5-Hour baby sweater (which is more like the 7-8 hour sweater) and knit the first one in 2 days in pink. I did not use the correct weight yarn however and so the sweater will be knit again. The one I made would be wearable, but I would hate it if it only fit for a few weeks!

The boy version I did using the correct weight yarn, and it has a less fancy yoke and buttons closed instead of the tie used for the girl version.

The other note-worthy thing that we did was to attend a children's play at ImaginOn again. we went last year and had so much fun I knew we had to go again. It took a year to get back, but seeing Little Man's face watching The Velveteen Rabbit come alive was heartwarming. Before we left he modeled his peacoat from Auntie Tenasha and enjoyed making funny faces for the camera.

We got to ImaginOn a little early, and while the library area was closed, we were able to enjoy the gingerbread houses that were created by area students and were displayed.

After the performance we were in the lobby when this tree decorated with origami cranes caught my eye. The cranes were made in connection to the play A Thousand Cranes, but it reminded me of my first Christmas tree with Hubby. We folded about 50 gold cranes to decorate our tree. It was simple, and our tree now bears little resemblance to our humble decoration beginnings, but that first tree was still beautiful. It represented one of the first times Hubby went along with a wacky craft idea of mine :)

By the time the play was over it was past Little Man's bedtime and he was getting cranky so we headed home. And I picked up my needles and knit some more!

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear you got let go from your job. What a crummy time of year for it to happen. I know it's hard to look on the bright side, but sometimes things happen for a reason. In the meantime, enjoy the holidays with your family and try not to think about it until afterwards.

Love the little sweaters. So they do take a little longer than 5 hrs, I thought maybe so. Still they are just precious! Hope to see them in person before you gift them!
