Valentine's Day

As much as we tried, we had issues celebrating Valentine's Day early.  We couldn't do a movie, we sat at the bar at Outback for dinner while Little Man went to Parents' Night Out, and then were horrified to learn the time on the registration sheet was wrong and we looked like we were late to pick him up.  There was candy, cards, and small gifts...but really...I could only give it so much effort.  It would have been Pop's 74th birthday.  It was our 3rd year without him with us and I feel the same as I did in 2009 when I wrote the following:

Through it all, Valentine's Day was what it has always been, what it will always be to me, my Pop's birthday. I wasn't able to call him, which was hard for me, because last year I missed talking to him on his actual birthday and I feel really bad about that. And there was no "Casino Night" or history books carefully picked out at Barnes and Noble and sent. But one thing was the same, we were all wishing him a happy birthday.

I don't think you ever stop missing a loved one, I think it just gets easier to think of them fondly.
